Rishabh Pant wished Shami with a witty tweet saying his age is increasing as fast as the ball comes out of his hand in Hindi, "@MdShami11 bhai, ball aur umar dono tezi se nikli jaa rahi hai. Happy birthday!"

As Pant took a cheeky dig at the pacer's age, Shami replied, in the same manner, commenting on the wicket-keeper's body saying, that no one can stop the ball's pace or control ageing, but treatments are still available for obesity in Hindi, "Apna time aayega beta ball or Umar ko koi nahi rook saka but motape ka treatment aaj bhi hota hai @RishabhPant17."

Shami may have missed out on playing the game but he didn't miss out on celebrating his birthday as Indian spectators at the Oval brought a cake, along with balloons and were wearing Shami's birthday special t-shirts as he obliged them and cut the cake while walking around the boundary rope at the ground.

Shami, along with Ishant Sharma were left out of the playing XI due to niggles as Umesh Yadav and Shardul Thakur returned to the Indian team for the fourth Test.
