Delhi Capitals restricted the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to 154 runs in their 20 overs, despite some late hitting by the birthday boy Andre Russell for the men in purple and gold. Russell remained unbeaten on 45 off 27 balls hitting two fours and four sixes, but KKR lost wickets at regular intervals, which didn't help their cause as at one point they looked like reaching a score of somewhere around 135.

KKR had a sedate start but the openers couldn't go on for long as left-arm spinner Axar Patel drew the first blood in the form of left-hander Nitish Rana. Rahul Tripathi and Shubman Gill helped their side get through to the powerplay, however, they never got out of Delhi Capitals' hands.

Soon after, the procession of wickets started and KKR found themselves slipping into a hole gradually. All-rounder Marcus Stoinis first accounted for Tripathi, in the 10th over of the innings.

Then the part-timer Lalit Yadav shocked the opposition by removing skipper Eoin Morgan and Sunil Narine in the same over and suddenly KKR were 75/4 from 69/1 in space of eight balls. After which, KKR found themselves very difficult to get out of the same.

Russell came in the 11th over of the innings, but with four wickets already down he couldn't play with the freedom he usually does and soon Shubman Gill after playing an innings of 43 runs off 38 balls followed the script as Avesh Khan took his 13th wicket of the tournament.

Dinesh Karthik hit a couple of boundaries and Andre Russell hit four sixes in total to salvage KKR's innings and give some respectability to the total.
