According to new reports, the spokesperson revealed that the spinner failed to prove his fitness on the eve of the match despite his solo training session indoors at the SCG on Tuesday.

While Ravindra Jadeja is expected to retain his place in the playing XI, Kuldeep Yadav might get a green signal considering SCG being spin-friendly.

Ashwin, who bagged six wickets in the opening Test at the Adelaide Oval suffered a side strain and was ruled out of the second Test. He also didn't play in the Boxing Day Test at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground but there were hopes that he would be cleared to play at Sydney, where the pitch usually favours spinners like him.

Going into the fourth and final Test, Virat Kohli's Team India are already 2-1 up and the reigning winners of the Border-Gavaskar trophy have ensured the trophy remains with them.
