Shameful: Trolls target R Ashwin's wife and kids after controversial Mankad dismissal
Trolls venting out their anger
In India, many people believe it is perfectly kosher to abuse relatives of celebrities if you don't like them. This is particularly true in the day and age of internet anonymity where anyone can get away by virtually saying anything thanks to lax attitude of enforcement authorities. Thus many trolls found it perfectly acceptable to personally attack Ravichandran Ashwin's wife Prithi and their daughters after Monday's IPL encounter between KXIP and Rajasthan Royals.
Royals won the match by 14 runs but not before R Ashwin Mankaded Jos Buttler, who looked well set to win the match for Royals. This lead to massive backlash on Twitter with many users feeling Ashwin violated the spirit of the game. While that is a matter of debate, but no sane person will perhaps justify the trolling received by R Ashwin's daughters and wife.
A small kd was called 'future cheat' by grown-up men (mostly) just because they didn't like a piece of action ( which was perfectly legal btw) on the cricket field. Talk about misplaced priorities!
Speaking about the dismissal, Ashwin said in post-match presser, ""No real argument on that and it was pretty instinctive. I didn't even load and he just left the crease. We ended on the right side of the coin, but I definitely think that those are game-changing moments and batsmen need to be wary of it".
To his credit, Ashwin has always advocated for batters to mind their crease when bowlers are delivering the ball. So one certainly can't accuse him of double standards.
Meanwhile RR Brand Ambassador Shane Warne hit out at Ashwin saying Mankading Buttle was 'low act'.
