Meet Arun Misra, IIT graduate, ex-employee of Ratan Tata's company, now leads Rs 1,30,000 crore firm as CEO

Arun Misra holds a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from IIT, Kharagpur.

Arun Misra is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO ) and Whole Time Director of Hindustan Zinc Ltd (HZL). He has been leading the world’s second-largest integrated producer of Zinc since August 2020. HZL is a subsidiary of Vedanta Limited, owned by Indian billionaire Anil Agarwal. Vedanta Limited owns 64.9 per cent stake in the company, while the government owns a 29.5 per cent stake.

Misra was appointed Deputy CEO of HZL in November 2019. He was elevated to his current position on August 1st, 2020. HZL has a market capitalisation of Rs 1,30,000 crore as of September 29. The share of the company was Rs 308.40 on Friday. Hindustan Zinc is the country's largest integrated zinc producer.

Misra holds a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from IIT, Kharagpur. Misra took a Diploma in Mining and Beneficiation from the University of New South Wales Sydney, and another Diploma in General Management from CEDEP, France.

Misra is an ex-employee of Tata Steel. He started his career in the company as Maintenance Head (Electrical), West Bokaro Coal Washery in July 1988. He has a formidable 33 years of rich and diverse experience. 

He is married to Mamita Misra. The duo is blessed with two daughters -- Stuti and Shreshtha. Apart from being a professional, he is passionate about singing, playing golf, and football. From August 1, 2023, Misra has also been appointed as Executive Director at Vedanta Limited.
