Karan Johar marked his return to direction after seven years with Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt-starre romantic drama Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, which released in the theatres in July this year and turned out to be a blockbuster earning more than Rs 300 crore at the global box office.

In his latest interview, the filmmaker has revealed that Akshay Kumar and Twinkle Khanna may have 'subconsiously' inspired Ranveer's Rocky and Alia's Rani in his film. Speaking to Mid-Day, Karan said, "Maybe subconsciously (I got inspired). They have a tremendous friendship in their marriage. I've had dinners with them, meals with them, hung out with them. And there's a terrific kind of comfort in their camaraderie. He finds her hilarious, she finds him hilarious, for different reasons."

"So I felt it wasn't impossible for people who come from two different demographics of society, two stratas, to actually find love. It's like we put ourselves in boxes. Like when we're finding a relationship, we put ourselves in places where we're comfortable. But tomorrow, you can fall in love with someone anywhere", the Kuc Kuch Hota Hai director added.

Apart from Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani also featured Dharmendra, Shabana Azmi, Jaya Bachchan, Tota Roy Chowdhury, Churni Ganguly, Aamir Bashir, Kshitee Jog, Anjali Anand, and Namit Das in the lead roles. It has music composed by Pritam and lyrics written by Amitabh Bhattacharya.

Even after the onslaught of Sunny Deol's Gadar 2, Akshay Kumar's OMG 2, and Shah Rukh Khan's Jawan, Karan Johar's film is still running in a few theatres across the country, and can be purchased on rent on Prime Video before it becomes available for streaming for all the subscribers.READ | This superstar to reunite with Karan Johar after 25 years for huge actioner set for Christmas 2024 release: Report
