Several kings ruled in India and expanded their empires.

But do you know which king had the largest empire in Indian history?

Chandragupta Maurya is often credited with establishing the largest empire in ancient India -- Maurya Empire.

He established the Mauryan dynasty with help from Chanakya.

Chanakya encouraged Chandragupta Maurya and his army to take over the throne of Magadha from King Dhana Nanda.

Chandragupta established his capital in Pataliputra (present-day Patna), with provincial capitals at Taxila and Ujjain.

Ashoka, one of India's greatest emperors, expanded Chandragupta's empire.

It covered the entire Indian subcontinent except for parts of present-day Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala.

The Maurya dynasty collapsed after the demise of King Ashoka.
