Creatures with more than one heart

Deepika Shakya

Some creatures in the animal kingdom have more than one heart, each serving a specific purpose in the circulatory system.

These additional hearts help these creatures efficiently circulate oxygenated blood throughout their bodies, supporting their unique physiological needs.

Here are some creatures with more than one heart

Earthworms have multiple "pseudohearts" or aortic arches along their body segments that pump blood, helping to circulate nutrients and oxygen.

Squids also have three hearts. Two hearts pump blood to the gills, and the third heart pumps oxygenated blood throughout the body.
