"I am leaving and I will see you tomorrow with Mr Tsakalotos," Varoufakis, who resigned earlier on Monday, said as he left the finance ministry. Asked whether Tsakalotos would be the new finance minister, Varoufakis said,"I hope so."

Varoufakis resigned from his post following the historic referendum that voted against accepting creditors' terms for a bailout.

In an earlier report, the minister alleged that many members of the Eurozone did not want to deal with him.  He said that it is imperative for Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras to reach an agreement with the troika creditors including the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the European Central Bank (ECB).  He said, "We of the Left know how to act collectively with no care for the privileges of office. I shall support fully Prime Minister Tsipras, the new Minister of Finance, and our government."
