US Democrat Hillary Clinton raised an impressive $143 million for her presidential bid and the Democratic Party in August, the best fundraising month for her campaign so far, her team has announced.

Of the total amount raised last month, $62 million was received for Clinton's White House run. About $81 million was raised for the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and state parties through the Hillary Victory Fund and the Hillary Action Fund.

Consequently, her campaign team 'Hillary for America', along with the DNC and state parties began September with a combined $152 million in the bank, a media release said.

More than 2.3 million people have donated to her campaign and the average donation made to HFA in August was about $50, the campaign said in a statement. "Thanks to the 2.3 million people who have contributed to our campaign, we are heading into the final two months of the race with the resources we need to organise and mobilise millions of voters across the country," said Hillary for America campaign manager Robby Mook.

The rival Trump campaign has not issued its latest monthly fundraising figures.
