Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Hoyt Brian Yee was in Tirana today to try to convince Prime Minister Edi Rama of the Socialist Party and main opposition Democratic Party leader Lulzim Basha reach a compromise ahead of the June 18 parliamentary election.

The opposition, which has not registered for the June polls, has boycotted parliament since February. The Democrats claim Rama's Cabinet will manipulate the vote.

Attempts so far by EU and US representatives to promote dialogue have failed.
