ABU DHABI: The United Arab Emirates is to transfer $30 million to the Palestinian Authority to alleviate a financial crisis sparked by a Western aid boycott of the Hamas-led government, official media announced on Sunday.

UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al-Nahayan "ordered the transfer of $30 million to the Palestinian Authority to help reduce the suffering of the Palestinian people," the official WAM news agency said.

The European Union and the United States froze all direct aid to the Palestinian Authority in March when Hamas formed a government after its January parliamentary election win.
