A 19-year-old student has been arrested for killing the cop on the campus.

University spokesman Chris Cook said the campus police made a student welfare check Monday evening and found upon entering the room evidence of drugs and drug paraphernalia. Cook says officers brought the suspect to the campus police station for standard debriefing.

During this time, Cook says the suspect pulled out a gun and shot an officer in the head, killing him.

Earlier, the university had issued alerts to its students via Twitter

An NBC affiliate KCBD reported that the suspect was described as 6 feet tall, 140 pounds, with red hair and blue eyes, wearing a white t-shirt and blue jeans.
