GROZNY: Policemen thwarted off a terrorist act in the Chechen capital, a source in the republican law enforcement agencies told Itar-Tass on Tuesday.

"A makeshift and radio-controlled explosive device exploded in the Oktyabrsky district of the city on the crossing of the streets Saikhanova and Vozrozhdeniya. A policeman, who patrolled the area with other policemen, was injured in the blast," the source emphasised.

According to him, "A car Zhiguli was found 20 metres away from the blast site on the roadside".

A makeshift explosive device, which was made of a metallic bucket staffed with plastic, pieces of pipes and filled with the sealing foam, as well as a radio Kenwood were found in the car, the source pointed out.

Sappers of the district military commandant's office defused the bomb.
