Mariam Malak who had aspirations to go to medical school, had scored high marks in previous exams in that past few years.

Malak and her family believe she is a victim of corruption in the Egyptian education system, it has been reported. "I was completely shocked. I couldn't hear anyone, I couldn't speak. I thought how can that happen? How can I get zero?" Mariam told the BBC.

Her brother feels, the school or examination board might have swapped her paper with a student who didn't fare well. Media reports say it is Mariam's Coptic Christian faith that may be the cause she was discriminated against.

Thousands have come out to support Mariam and currently 36,883 people have liked a social media page, titled Tears of Mariam. Many have sent heartfelt messages on social media with the #IBelieveMariam.

Many have called for an investigation into Mariam's scored, suggesting there must be a mistake.
