Oprah Winfrey has said that Americans know ‘diddly-squat’ about the Civil Rights movement.

Winfrey, who made her comments during the promotion of her new flick The Butler, told Parade magazine that each time she heard the ‘N’ word, she was reminded of the millions of people who heard that as their last word as they were hung from a tree, the Washington Post reported.

The 59-year-old talk-show host also commented about the acquittal of Florida resident George Zimmerman on murder charges for the shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, saying that this incident exposed the value of black lives for Americans.
