Meghan Markle creates history; becomes first member of British royal family to vote in US Presidential Election

Duchess Meghan of Sussex made history today after she became the first member of the British royal family to vote for president in an American election. 

People reported that a source close to Meghan Markle said that she "is voting in this election," however, the source would not say whether she voted early or will vote locally near her Santa Barbara, California. 

During an appearance on the ABC special to mark the annual Time100 issue in September, Meghan had encouraged people to vote in large numbers. 

She had said, "Every four years, we're told, 'This is the most important election of our lifetime.' But this one is. When we vote, our values are put into action, and our voices are heard."

Before this, in August, Meghan had a chat with feminist icon Gloria Steinem about the importance of women voting.

She had said, "People forget how hard women like you and so many others before you fought for us to just be where we are right now."

Steinem also replied to Meghan and said, "If you don't vote, you don't exist. It is the only place we're all equal, the voting booth."

For the uninformed, Prince Harry is British and therefore not eligible to vote, however, in the Time100 special, Harry made a non-partisan intervention and said, "As we approach this November, it's vital that we reject hate speech, misinformation and online negativity. What we consume, what we are exposed to, and what we engage with online, has a real effect on all of us."
