Late North Korean supreme leader Kim Jong-il ate snakes, hippos and spiders, a defector has claimed.

Kenji Fujimoto, who was the leader's sushi chef before fleeing the country in 2001, said the dictator used to make 'a lot of strange requests, snake was one.

According to the Sun, Fujimoto, who only work with seafood, also revealed that Kim Jong-il used to like eating hippopotamus, and wanted to eat spiders one day.

He also loved quaffing posh Bordeaux wine at dinner before knocking back Johnnie Walker whisky and Cognac, he added.

According to the report, the North Korean government had even banned from wearing aftershave or perfume as Jong-il, who died in 2011, hated the smell.
