KATHMANDU: Seventeen people were killed and another 13 feared dead after a landslide buried sleeping villagers in western Nepal, police said on Saturday.

The landslide swept away the village of Ulleri as people were sleeping late on Friday following torrential rains which lashed the region.

"Seventeen bodies have been recovered and 13 people are missing from the landslide which destroyed the village," deputy police superintendent Surya Nath Upadhyay said on telephone from Pokhara near the landslide site.

"Chances of the 13 having survived are very slim," he said.
