TOKYO: A Japanese deputy head teacher has been arrested for an alleged sex act with a teenager, police said on Tuesday, amid claims he made a small fortune selling child porn pictures to magazines.

Takayuki Hosoda, 54, was arrested in the northern Japanese city of Sapporo on Monday for alleged violation late last month of the law banning child sex and pornography, local police said.

"He allegedly gave a 16-year-old girl 6,000 yen (52 dollars) in cash and engaged in obscene conduct in his car in a parking lot," a police spokesman said.

Police confiscated hundreds of DVDs, pornographic pictures, handcuffs and school uniforms from his car and home. Police suspect the teacher made 18 million yen (157,000 dollars) over seven years by selling pornography, including child porn pictures.

Hosoda is the deputy head teacher at a publicly funded elementary school in Sapporo. School head Yoshiaki Sakamoto said on Monday the incident had come as "a bolt from the blue" as there had been no problems with the teacher before.
