Islamic State (IS) militants have killed 300 Yazidi captives in western Mosul in Iraq, said the Yazidi Progress Party.

According to BBC, Iraqi Vice-President Osama al-Nujaifi condemned the killings saying that it was "horrific and barbaric".

In 2014, many members of the religious minority group were captured by IS. It is not yet clear as to how they were killed or why the killings took place.

Many people from the minority group are reported to have been held in Mosul after the militants captured large swathes of northern and western Iraq and eastern Syria.
