On Wednesday night in Kansas city (US), Indian engineer Srinivas Kuchibhotla was shot and killed in a bar.

Kuchibhotla's friend Alok Madasani and an American named Ian Grillot, who tried to intervene and stop the attack at the Austins Bar and Grill in Olathe, were also shot. They survived the shooting. 

At a news conference, Kuchibhotla's distraught wife Sunayana Dumala, said she had doubts about living in America, but her husband said "good things happen in America".

The police  is  investigating the case as a possible hate crime.

Here's what we know so far about the suspect, Adam Purinton.

- 51-year-old Purinton is a former United States Navy veteran.

- Records reveal Purinton had been living in Olathe, Kansas since 1998.

- Neighbours knew him as a low-key fixture in the community.

- At the time of the shooting, he worked as a desktop support specialist for GEN3RATION, an information technology company in the Kansas City area, his LinkedIn Page stated.

- Purinton once worked for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). After leaving FAA in 2000, he held numerous jobs including working at a local liquor store and working at an information technology business.

- The Kansas City Star's Managing Editor Greg Farmer tweeted that Purinton’s neighbours revealed he suffered from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

- Police arrested Purinton on Thursday morning, five hours after the shooting.

- According to local media reports, he yelled "get out of my country" at the Indians.

- Reuters reported after Purinton fled the scene, he told an emloyee at an Applebee's restaurant that he "needed a place to hide because he had killed two Middle Eastern men".

- Purinton is charged with the premeditated murder of Kuchibhotla, as well as the attempted murders of Madasani and Grillot. His bond was set at $2 million.
