BEIJING: Chinese police shot dead a hijacker armed with explosives who hijacked a bus and took two persons, including a foreign tourist, hostage in northwest Shaanxi province.
    
The man hijacked the bus and took a 48-year-old woman from New South Wales and a translator hostage in the downtown and called for negotiations with police, the local authority said.
    
The Police agreed to the hijacker, Xia Tao's demand to change buses and fatally shot him when the vehicle reached the airport toll station after unsuccessful negotiations, official Xinhua news agency said, quoting the local security bureau.
    
The hostages were unharmed, the report said.
