Fourteen militants and one security personnel were killed when a group of Taliban attacked security check posts overnight in Hangu region of Pakistan's restive northwest.
 
Militants armed with heavy weapons launched an attack on several check posts late last night. The troops repulsed the attack, killing 14 militants in retaliatory firing and shelling, TV news channels reported today.
 
One security personnel was killed and four were injured in the clashes, reports said. The troops used artillery to target militant positions for several hours after the attack. Two Taliban hideouts were destroyed in the shelling.

There was no official word on the skirmishes.
