LOS ANGELES: Former Charlie's Angels star Farrah Fawcett is battling cancer, reports said on Friday.

The 59-year-old icon of the hit 1970s television show has undergone an operation to remove a tumour from her lower intestine and is undergoing chemotherapy, several media outlets reported.

Fawcett released a statement to television show Entertainment Tonight requesting to be left alone by the media.

"Please respect my privacy at this challenging time," Fawcett told the show.

Reports said Fawcett had moved back in with former partner Ryan O'Neal as she attempts to beat the disease.

Fawcett was most recently seen at August's Emmy Awards, where she was reunited with Angel co-stars Jaclyn Smith and Kate Jackson.
