A fire broke out at a shopping mall in the Bangladeshi capital on Sunday with authorities evacuating shoppers and staff from the complex.

The fire erupted on level six of the fifth floor of the shopping centre in Bashundhara City here around 11:20 am following which nine fire fighting units were rushed to the scene, BD News reported. "We have been informed of a fire in a shop on level six," said Fire Service Control Room in-charge Md Enayet Hossain.

Meanwhile, a staffer of a garment shop on level seven of the mall said the fire started from a footwear shop. However, the cause of the fire could not be ascertained.
