Earthquake of 4.6 magnitude jolts Pakistan, second quake in three days

A mild earthquake shook parts of Pakistan on Monday, as reported by the National Centre for Seismology. The quake measured 4.06 on the Richter scale and occurred at a shallow depth of 10 kilometres. The epicentre was located at latitude 29.12°N and longitude 67.26°E.

The tremor struck just days after another earthquake, measuring 4.0, hit the country during the night between Friday and Saturday. The back-to-back quakes have raised concerns about increasing seismic activity in the region.

Experts say that shallow earthquakes—those less than 70 kilometres deep—can be more dangerous because the seismic waves travel a shorter distance to the surface. This can cause stronger shaking in areas close to the epicentre. Since Monday’s quake occurred at just 10 kilometres deep, it had the potential to cause strong localised shaking.

There were no immediate reports of injuries or major damage. However, people living near the affected area said they felt the tremors and rushed out of their homes in panic.

Notably, the shaking was brief and no serious incidents were reported.
