DUBAI: The father of an Indian boy studying at a school in Jeddah has alleged that a teacher beat his child so severely that the 12-year-old student momentarily went blind and deaf.

Fayez, who studies at the International Indian School, was admitted to a polyclinic on November 16 with signs of abuse on his face and ears.

Muhammad Sharif, Fayez's father said he submitted the medical report to police and registered an official complaint.

Shuaib Kazi, the chairman of the school Managing Committee, said on Thursday that action was being taken against the erring teacher.

"We completely sympathise with the child and his parents and we have initiated action against the teacher," he said.

"However, the committee feels that we should be discreet about the punishment. We don't want to demoralise the teaching community."
