NEW DELHI: Doordarshan launched two Hindi channels, DD India and DD News, in Britain last month, Lok Sabha was informed on Tuesday.

In a reply, Information and Broadcasting Minister P R Dasmunsi said the channels were launched by Rayat Television Enterprises of Rayat Group in Britain after it entered into an agreement with Prasar Bharati for five years.

DD India has seven Hindi and six English news bulletins and DD News has 19 English and 24 Hindi news bulletins a day, Dasmunsi said.

In another reply, he said proposals from 71 private satellite TV channels seeking permission to uplink from India are under various stages of consideration by the government.

Dasmunsi also informed the House that during the last financial year, his ministry, through the Directorate of Audio Visual Publicity (DAVP) released advertisements worth Rs 100 crore to audio-visual media and advertisements worth Rs 207.2 crore to the print media.
