BEIJING: China on Tuesday confirmed the outbreak of bird flu among ducks in its southern Guangdong province.

Dead ducks at Yashan village were detected with the deadly H5N1 strain of bird flu virus in recent days, the Ministry of Agriculture said.

The ministry said 3,873 ducks died due to avian flu and 17,127 were culled. However, it did not mention when the outbreak began.

Emergency measures had been taken and the epidemic brought under control, the ministry was quoted as saying by the state-run Xinhua news agency.
