After a series of incidents in France, its now Canada that has witnessed knife attack on early Sunday morning. Atleast two people have died and five others injured in the attack that took place in Canada's Quebec city. 

According to reports, the suspect was armed with a long blade and dressed in medieval clothing. He went on a stabbing spree near the regional parliament building in the city. It is to be noted that Québec is a predominantly French-speaking province in eastern Canada.

The local police have arrested the suspect and launched an investigation in the matter. Meanwhile security has been beefed up in the area and emergency services were rushed to the scene of the incident.

Police say five people who got injured in the attack were transported to a local hospital, but the local administration is yet to make any official announcement on their conditions.

Just after the incident the police issued a high alert around the vicinity. The local police tweeted, 'Shortly before 1 am, the SPVQ (Quebec city police force) arrested a suspect'. It also tweeted and requested the residents of the city, 'stay inside with the doors locked because an investigation is still ongoing.'

Queben police is yet to make any statement on the number of deaths or the numbers of injured people but it is expected that an official statement will be released on Sunday. However, national public broadcaster Radio-Canada reported that two people got killed and five got injured in the attack.

The incident has taken place at a time when Halloween is being celebrated across Canada. 

As soon as the police were informed about the incident, it cordoned off the area and launched a manhunt to nab the accused. After a brief operation, the suspect was arrested.

France priest attack

On Saturday a Greek Orthodox priest was seriously injured in a shooting outside a church in the French city of Lyon. As per officials, the incident took place at about 4 p.m. (local time) on Saturday evening when the priest, identitied as Nikolas Kakavelakis, was closing the church.

Police said the attacker was armed with a sawn-off shotgun.
