Bhutan has dismissed reports of Chinese villages being inside the country after a Chinese journalist posted pictures of a "new village" in Doklam.

Bhutan's envoy to India, Maj Gen Vetsop Namgyel in response to a WION question said, "There is no Chinese village inside Bhutan."

A Chinese state media journalist had posted pictures of a new village, whose location was near the site of the 2017 India China standoff. He later deleted the tweet.

It is being said that China has established a village here. Notably, this place is just 9 kilometres from the place in Doklam on which India and China had a dispute in the year 2017.

Chinese CGTN News journalist Shen Shiwi posted pictures of this village and wanted to tell how much development China has done near Doklam. But as soon as the photos came out, China was exposed because this area comes under Bhutan's border. When the controversy escalated, Shen deleted the photos, but by then the screenshots of his tweet had gone viral.

This action of China is a major cause for concern for India because China has long wanted to occupy this area of Bhutan and due to this, both countries came face to face in 2017. The area of Doklam is on the tri-junction of India, China and Bhutan and China could have become a huge challenge for India by building a road here. This road makes it easier for China to reach the Chicken Neck or the Siliguri corridor of India, and through the Siliguri corridor, China could isolate northeast India.

Doklam, a Bhutanese territory is at the trijunction of India, Bhutan, and China. Chinese forces were trying to construct a road in that region sparking a 2-month long stand-off that year.

Earlier this year, China staked a claim on Sakteng Wildlife sanctuary in Eastern Bhutan. This was promptly dismissed by Thimphu.
