After outbreak in China, US confirms first case of coronavirus

A strain of coronavirus labelled as 2019-nCoV has led to an outbreak of viral pneumonia.

The United States Centre for disease control on Tuesday confirmed the first case of coronavirus in the country which claimed the lives of six people in Asia. 

The passenger, male, travelling from Wuhan to Washington is currently in isolation at Providence Regional Medical Center in Everett.

There have been over 400 confirmed cases of novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV), including nine deaths, with all of them imported from Wuhan city China, health authorities there stated.

A strain of coronavirus labelled as 2019-nCoV has led to an outbreak of viral pneumonia. There was also evidence of patient to patient respiratory transmission of the disease.

Many major international airports in India as well as in other countries have issued an alert regarding novel coronavirus, with passengers arriving from China, including Hong Kong, to be screened on arrival.

Meanwhile, the World Health Organization (WHO) has said that the UN agency's Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus will hold an emergency committee on the spread of the virus on Wednesday.

"The Emergency Committee on the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) will ascertain whether the outbreak constitutes a public health emergency of international concern, and what recommendations should be made to manage it," WHO said. 

Four countries have reported to the WHO confirmed cases with most for China, one case each in Japan and South Korea and two case in Thailand with all of them imported from Wuhan.
