BEIRUT: Seven hundred and fifty people have been killed, mostly civilians, and more than 2,000 wounded in Lebanon since Israel launched its air, sea and land assault on July 12, Health Minister Mohammed Khalifeh said on Sunday.

He said the figure included the 51 dead, including 25 children, in the carnage earlier in the day in the southern village of Qana near the Israeli border.

"This figure is not final because there are other casualties under the rubble in Qana and other places. The rescue teams are not being able to operate everywhere because of the continued blind bombardment in which ambulances are being targeted," said Khalifeh.

Israel's air blitz on Qana has triggered outrage across the region.
