KATHMANDU: At least 23 people, including a child, were killed and 23 others injured when a passenger bus skidded off a mountain road and fell into a river in northeast Nepal on Sunday, police said.

The bus was travelling from Kathmandu to Jalbire when the mishap occurred near Fulping Hills in Sindhupalchowk district, about 75 kms from the Nepalese capital.

Whille 22 died on the spot, a child, died while being taken to the Banepa hospital, police added.

Police and Army officials were called in for rescue efforts.
