From 1,41,078 years for fraud to 32,500 years for rape, a look at world's longest prison sentences

Chamoy Thipyaso, living in Thailand, is known for receiving the world's longest prison sentence. Thipyaso was sentenced to 1,41,078 years for her involvement in a pyramid scheme that duped more than 16,000 Thailand natives. It was much later that a law was passed in Thailand that no matter how long the sentence was given to a criminal in a fraud case, they could not be kept in prison for more than 20 years. It was because of this law that Thipyaso was released only after 8 years.

Gabriel March Granados, a 22-year-old postman from Spain, was sentenced to 3,84,912 years in 1972. He was found guilty of not delivering more than 40 thousand letters and parcels. His sentence was later reduced to 14 years.

In 1994, a man named Allan Wayne McLaurin received a total sentence of 21, 250 years, according to the report of The Oklahoman. Allen was sentenced to a total of 8,000 years in 4 counts of rape, 8,000 years for 4 counts of forced unnatural sex, 1,500 years for assault with a weapon and 500-500 years in some cases of robbery. Allen's accomplice was also sentenced to a total of 11,250 years. Both the partners were sentenced to 32,500 years.

Charles Scott Robinson was sentenced to 30,000 years in Oklahoma, the USA for raping a child. He has been in jail since 1994. Interestingly, Charles is eligible to get his first parole when he will turn 108 years old.

An Uzbek national named Abdulkadir Masharipov was handed the equivalent of 40 life sentences plus an additional 1,368 years for executing the Istanbul nightclub shooting in 2017.
