The inaugural 'Amrit Snan' of the Maha Kumbh festival takes place today, marking a sacred tradition where revered Naga Sadhus are honored with the privilege of being the first to bathe in the holy waters.

Aghoris, typically refrain from bathing in the sacred rivers, unlike many other devotees. during the Mahakumbh, a massive Hindu pilgrimage. 

Unlike many other Hindu sadhu groups, Aghoris do not belong to any specific akhada (monastic order). They operate independently, often following their own guru or spiritual tradition.

Aghoris frequently reside in shamshan ghats (cremation grounds) or secluded, isolated areas. 

Some Aghoris believe that bathing can drain their spiritual energy, which they accumulate through intense meditation and yoga practices.
