NASA's Hubble Space Telescope captured this image of an enormous bubble being blown into space by a super-hot, massive star.
The Bubble Nebula is 7 light-years across — about one-and-a-half times the distance from our Sun.
The bright magenta spot in the center of this image is a star called BD+602522. The nebula's gas and dust are shaped by its fierce stellar winds.
Scientists estimate that this nebula is formed over 4 million years. This animation provides a look at its three-dimensional structure.
Its iconic “bubble” shape was created from the stellar wind created by the intensely hot central star (SAO 20575).
The Bubble Nebula is still growing and The Bubble itself is about 10 light-years in diameter.
A ground telescope at Kitt Peak National Observatory in the United States captured this image of the Bubble Nebula.
