A main battle tank defends itself against an anti-tank rocket fired at it in a new video on YouTube.
In the demonstration video for the anti-missile technology, the tank’s active protection system (APS) detects the rocket and launch an interceptor to nullify it before it could hit the tank’s hull.
The video is uploaded by One Russia, a state-controlled media outlet.
As per the website popular mechanics, the APS allows Russia to use older tanks without having to restructure their armour.
The system will also aid in keeping newly produced tanks lighter armoured and more agile.
The video shows a Russian soldier fires an RPG-7 anti-tank grenade at a Russian T-72B3 tank.
Right before the projectile can reach the tank’s hull, an RPG blasts off from the tank catching the rocket in its path and exploding it out of the sky.
Watch the video from the 25th minute:
T-72B3 tank’s APS system is known as Arena-M and is a relatively new technology.
