A train in India runs without an engine, yet surpasses the speed of one India’s fastest trains. The Vande Bharat Express is one of the best innovations by the Indian Railways.

Built under the “Make in India” initiative at Chennai’s Integral Coach Factory, the Vande Bharat Express is India’s first engine-less train. Unlike traditional trains with separate engine coaches, this semi-high-speed train has its engine integrated into the carriages, much like modern metro or bullet trains. This unique design not only enhances its speed but also improves efficiency.

During its trial runs, the Vande Bharat Express clocked an impressive 183 km/h. However, for safety reasons and track limitations, it currently operates at a maximum speed of 160 km/h, making it the fastest train in India. Despite this, it remains quicker than the iconic Rajdhani and Shatabdi Express trains.

Since its launch in February 2019, the Vande Bharat Express has become a favourite among travellers, admired for its advanced technology and comfort.

The train’s fully automated systems, coupled with the presence of two locomotive pilots for safety, ensure a seamless and secure journey.
