Social media has both good and bad impacts on people and society at large. However, if used wisely it can be a boon. The whole concept of social media is to bring together people separated by societies, boundaries, countries and continents. It keeps us aware of the happening around the globe and also helps us keep in touch with friends and family.

And here is a story of the reunion of a mother and daughter separated 14 years ago and all thanks to social media for making it possible. On Monday, a missing teenager from Florida who was abducted 14 years ago was officially reunited with her mother.

The mother and the daughter reunited after a reported social media communication between them. According to the police, Jacqueline Hernandez, now 19-year-old, contacted her mother Angelica Vences-Salgado over Facebook earlier this month and told her that she was her lost daughter and was currently living in Mexico.

A press release by the Clermont Police Department read that on September 2, 2021, Vences-Salgado told the police that she was contacted by a woman who claimed to be her lost daughter. She told the police that the woman had asked her to meet at the point of entry to the US in Laredo, Texas on September 10, 2021.

Police laid out a plan to 'intercept' the meeting and verify the girl's authenticity. Various agencies were put to action and within hours police got hold of several documents provided by these agencies. These documents proved that the girl's claims were right and indeed the woman from Mexico was the missing daughter of Vences-Salgado.

On December 22, 2007, six-year-old Hernandez was allegedly abducted from her home in Clermont, Florida, by her father Pablo Hernandez, an international media reported.
