Ramlila is performed in almost every community in India during the Navratri, where stage actors put on costumes and recreate the Ramayana, which is one of the largest ancient epics in world literature. Their dialogues and attires originate from the mythical text, making it one of the most popular practices during Navratri.

The celebration of Navratri varies from region to region, as people adopt the rituals in their own way. Similarly, the Ramlila in different states varies when it comes to dialect, language and costumes, though the overall gist and story remain the same.

A Ramlila performance in Punjab left netizens laughing out loud as the performance took a Punjabi turn on stage. In a video uploaded on social media, Ravan in the Ramlila broke out into a bhagra performance in the middle of the stage as the show progressed.

The video, which was shared on Twitter, shows the man playing Ravan putting a twist on the traditional Ramlila busted out his bhangra moves during his performance. The man can be seen grooving and busting out his moves to the popular Punjabi song ‘Mitran da Naam chalda’.

The video was uploaded on Twitter on October 13, along with the caption “Kara lo Punjab vich Ramayan”. The stage actor shed all his ambitions and danced to his heart’s desire, which is very out of character for a man who is supposed to be playing Ravan.

The video instantly went viral on Twitter and left the netizens impressed with the actor’s dance skills and amused with the surprise twist in a regular Ramlila programme. The video has since then garnered thousands of views and hundreds of likes and retweets.

A Twitter user said, “It's quite normal in rural areas. I still remember that in my childhood late 90's my village was doing Ramayan every year and to entertain people Hanuman Ji was doing some tricks or Ravan and Ram Ji had some funny punchlines. And those jhankis in between the episodes.”
