A former Infosys employee criticized low salaries, minimal hikes, costly perks, restrictive policies, and lack of career growth, calling for systemic workplace reforms in India.
A former Infosys employee recently took to social media to share their experiences with the company, shedding light on issues such as low pay, restrictive policies, and limited career growth. The detailed post, shared on Reddit, sparked widespread discussion and resonated with many others who shared similar experiences.
Low Salaries and Minimal Hikes
The employee highlighted how Infosys’ pay structure left many underpaid. Referring ex-colleagues to their current organization often resulted in an 80-100% salary hike, indicating how Infosys lagged behind market standards. Annual salary hikes were typically in the single digits, ranging from 4-6%, which, combined with slow career progression, significantly impacted take-home pay.
Restricted Career Growth
Infosys’ “progression” system was another point of concern. Instead of meaningful promotions, employees moved within sub-levels (e.g., 4B to 4A) without substantial pay raises or increased responsibilities. In contrast, the employee’s current company offered promotions with 15-25% hikes and new responsibilities, creating a sense of real growth.
Costly Perks and Lack of Subsidies
The Redditor also criticized the additional expenses borne by employees. While their current company offered free transportation and parking, Infosys charged Rs 3,200 monthly for transport and parking fees. Even canteen prices were higher, with fresh fruit juice costing Rs 40 at Infosys compared to Rs 15-20 in their current workplace due to subsidies.
Strict Policies and Job Switch Challenges
Infosys’ 90-day notice period was called out as a significant barrier to switching jobs, as many companies were unwilling to wait three months for candidates to join. Moreover, the mandatory campus attendance policy, monitored via ID card swipes, added to employees’ frustrations.
Philanthropy vs. Employee Welfare
The employee pointed out that while Infosys was praised for its philanthropic efforts, many felt the funds could have been better allocated to improving salaries and benefits for its workforce.
Need for Systemic Changes
The former employee ended their post by emphasizing the need for systemic changes in India’s labor policies. They called for a minimum wage policy across sectors and regular market corrections to ensure fair compensation for employees.
The post sparked a lively debate online, with many users sharing similar experiences and urging for better workplace practices in India.
