Amazon series Transparent will be ending on a musical note, creator of the show Jill Soloway has said.

The upcoming fifth season will be the last for the series and the musical finale will be shot later this year to debut next autumn, Soloway told The New York Times.

"This idea of music rescuing our family was all there. So we're like, Let's just keep blowing on the flame. The Pfeffermans will live on, and that's what kept us going.

"It will hopefully feel like Jesus Christ Superstar mixed with La La Land mixed with Flight of the Conchords with something more Jewish thrown in a little Yentl," she added.

Soloway has been working with sister Faith Soloway and transgender performer Shakina Nayfack on the music for the episode.

Other details were sparse.

The story of the series revolves around a family and their lives following the discovery that the person they knew as their father Mort Pfefferman (Jeffrey Tambor) is a trans woman, who later takes Maura as their name.

Transparent made headlines earlier this year after sexual harassment claims surfaced against Tambor.

The actor was sacked from the job after a subsequent internal investigation by the streaming giant.
