'Indian Idol 12' cannot seem to get rid of controversies this season. After singers Amit Kumar, Abhijeet Bhattacharya, and Sunidhi Chauhan, now it's singer and music composer, Salim Merchant, who has come forward and said that he was also asked to praise the contestants.

Salim Merchant has previously judged reality shows like 'Indian Idol' and 'The Voice India', spoke to RJ Siddharth Kannan about the controversy on his show. When asked if he, too, has been asked to praise contestants by the makers of a show he was judging. He admitted that while he was told to do so, he never gave in to it. "Yes, mere saath bhi hua hai. But honestly, maine kabhi nahi suna unki baat. Shayad aaj main koi judge ki seat pe nahi baitha hoon because of that."

Salim also said that there were times when he praised contestants even when they made a mistake, but it wasn't fake. “Main isliye nahi karta hoon because mujhe kaha gaya hai taareef karna. Main taareef isliye karta hoon ki kisi ki khaamiyaan nikaalne ke bajaay main khoobi dekhta hoon. Agar main uski khoobi ki taareef karoon toh shayad, main aisa maanta hoon ki, woh singer behtar kar sakta hai," he added.

Last month, Kishore Kumar's son, Amit Kumar had appeared on the show as a guest judge in 'Indian Idol 12' after which he made these allegations. Even singer Sunidhi Chauhan had also revealed that she was also asked to praise the contestants.
