Actor Dilip Joshi, who shot to fame for his role as Jethalal in the hit sitcom 'Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah', has had a long wait before he finally saw success coming his way.

Born into a Gujarati family, Dilip, who started his acting career in 1989, playing the character of Ramu in the film 'Maine Pyar Kiya', essayed several small roles in Hindi films and television serials, before he finally landed the part which saw him reach the heights of success.

Recently, a video interview of Dilip's in which he is talking about being jobless for a year before getting onboard "TMKOC' is going viral on the internet.

In the video, Dilip Joshi is heard saying he was offered a choice to essay the role of either Champaklal or Jethalal. However, he refused to play Champaklal citing he wouldn't look the part. He then said that the producer, Asit Modi, expressed his confidence in him and he finally got on board as Jethalal for the sitcom which now has millions of fans across the globe.

Dilip is also heard talking about the period of struggle before he signed "TMKOC'. He said, "Before I signed TMKOC, for over a year I had no job, no work. The serial I was working on had gone off-air. The play I was part of, it's runtime was over. So, I had no work. It was a tough time and I couldn't comprehend what should I do or whether I should change my field. But by the grace of God, TMKOC was offered to me."

Earlier, In a 2011 interview with Times of India, when asked if there was a long story of a struggle behind the massive success that he has attained over the years, Dilip Joshi replied in affirmative and said, "Yes. Actually my struggle would have started from the very time I would have started acting as a child. I was good in mimicry. My mom thought of putting me in the theater. And these were the days when acting was a social taboo. So from starting to sustaining, it was a battle. Acting is risky business. No matter how big you are, you are never secure. You don't know when you will be out of work. Would you believe if I say that I was almost jobless for an entire year just before I signed Taarak Mehta...!

Asked what kept him going through tough time, Dilip Joshi said, "It's your love for the profession, love for acting...I really love acting, so never thought how well I was doing (commercially) or quitting. There was always something or the other, big or small but interesting. And I wasn't dreaming of becoming a big star either."
