On Tuesday, the 26-year-old actor Adarsh Gourav was announced as one of the nominees in the leading actor's British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) nominees list alongside names like Riz Ahmed ('Sound Of Metal'), late Chadwick Boseman ('Ma Rainey's Black Bottom'), Mads Mikkelsen ('Another Round'), Anthony Hopkins ('The Father') and Tahar Rahim ('The Mauritanian').

The actor was nominated for his terrific performance in the Netflix film 'The White Tiger'Based, based on Aravind Adiga's Booker Prize-winning novel of the same name. Gourav chronicled the extraordinary journey of how a driver named Balram escapes poverty to rise to the top while actors Rajkummar Rao and Priyanka Chopra Jonas played the characters of a rich married couple and Gourav's employers in the film, Ashok and Pinky.

The film is directed by Ramin Bahrani.

Besides the lead actor category, the film is also nominated under 'Ádapted Screenplay'.

Taking to his social media handle to express his excitement on receiving the BAFTA nomination, Adarsh Gourav wrote on Instagram, "Holy shit it's really happening! Thank you Ramin for trusting me to play the character that has given me more than anything I've ever experienced Congratulations to the team for two BAFTA nominations!! Best adapted screenplay and Leading actor. Congratulations to all the other nominees too! @netflix @netflix_in @priyankachopra
@rajkummar_rao @ava @mukul.deora @indiatakeone @vjymaurya @tessjosephcasting (sic)."

Priyanka Chopra too couldn't stop herself from expressing how proud and excited she was. She wrote on Instagram, "What a proud moment for Indian talent with 2 BAFTA nominations for an ALL INDIAN STAR CAST!! Ecstatic for you @gouravadarsh, you are so deserving of this recognition, and congratulations #RaminBahrani, so well deserved. I feel extremely proud to have been an executive producer on this movie! Let’s get it!! (sic)."

Meanwhile, last year's backlash led BAFTA to conduct a wide-ranging review resulting in expanded membership, a new longlist voting round, and an increase in all four acting categories and best director to six nominees from five. Also, there was a clear push on diversity among the acting contenders following an outcry last year.
