1.Kapil Sharma's real name is Kapil Punj, father was a head constable in Punjab Police
Kapil Sharma is a household name now, however, Kapil's full name was Kapil Punj which he had later changed. His father Jeetendra Kumar Punj was a head constable in Punjab Police and his mother Janak Rani is a homemaker. In the year 1997, his father was diagnosed with cancer and passed in the year 2004 in Delhi. Kapil was very young at the time and had to take on the responsibility of his family.
2.Kapil Sharma was rejected from 'The Great Indian Laughter Challenge', a show that he went on to win
Kapil Sharma first auditioned for 'The Great Indian Laughter Challenge' in Amritsar, where he faced rejection. Then he auditioned again in Delhi and got selected. Kapil later went on to win the show. After this, Kapil went on to win the comedy reality show 'Comedy Circus' for six consecutive seasons before launching his own show 'Comedy Nights With Kapil' and later 'The Kapil Sharma Show'.
3.Kapil Sharma spent all prize money from winning 'The Great Indian Laughter Challenge' on his sister's marriage
Kapil Sharma may be a popular figure in the industry, however, he also has two lesser-known siblings. Kapil has a brother named Ashok Sharma who is a Police constable just like their father. He also has a sister named Pooja Pawan Devgan who is married now. Many might not know, but, Kapil had given up all the 10 lakh he got as prize money after winning 'The Great Indian Laughter Challenge' so that he could provide a lavish wedding to his beloved sister.
4.Kapil Sharma wanted to become a singer
When Kapil Sharma first came to Mumbai, he dreamed of becoming a singer. He participated as a wild card in the singing reality show 'Star Ya Rockstar' and won the second prize. Despite this, he couldn’t pursue it further and tried his hand at comedy.
5.Kapil Sharma did odd jobs before making it big in the television industry
Kapil Sharma, who married Ginni Chatrath and shares two children with her, worked at many odd jobs such as selling newspapers, working at a clothing store, general store, and at a PCO, before making it big in the comedy industry.
6.Kapil Sharma was invited to the Rashtrapati Bhavan by President Pranab Mukherjee
Kapil Sharma has not just dominated the comedy scene but has also got himself noted and listed in the big leagues. The comedian found his name on the 69th position in the Forbes India Celebrity list in 2012 and went on to be ranked 11th on their Celebrity 100 list in 2016. Kapil was also invited to the Rashtrapati Bhavan by President Pranab Mukherjee in September 2015 to acknowledge his contribution to the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
