'Indian Idol 12' has been in the middle of controversies ever since the Kishore Kumar special episode aired. Last week, host and singer Aditya Narayan too found himself making headlines for the wrong reasons when he asked one of the contestants 'Hum Kya Alibaug se aaye hai kya?'. The remark did not go down well with MNS Chitrapat Sena chief Ameya Khopkar who called out the singer-host and also the channel and the makers for Aditya's insensitive comment and demanded an apology. Khopkar even threatened to stall the shooting of the show. Later, Aditya took to his Facebook page and apologised with a note. Aditya apologised by stating, "With a humble heart and folded hands, I want to apologise to the people of Alibaug and everyone who has been hurt by my sentence on a recent episode of 'Indian Idol' that I’m currently hosting. The intention was never to hurt anyone. I have immense love and respect for Alibaug. My own sentiments are connected with the place, its people and this soil."

Days after 'Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah' actor Munmun Dutta apologised for using a casteist slur in one of her videos, TV star Yuvika Chaudhary too was found guilty of doing the same. In a vlog posted by her, the actor had used a term by saying 'she looks like them' which did not go well with people on the Internet. Soon after 'Arrest Yuvika Choudhary' started trending on Twitter and people slammed the actor left right and centre. However, Yuvika took to her Instagram story and issued an apology stating she didn't know the meaning of the word. While apologising, Yuvika stated, "Hi guys, I didn't know the meaning of that word that I used in my last vlog. I didn't mean to hurt anyone and I can never do that to hurt someone. I apologise to each and everyone, I hope you understand. Love you all." Her apology also didn't go well with the netizens and they still demanded her arrest. One of the users tweeted, "We don't want your apology. Yuvika Chaudhary, you have committed an offence under section 153A of IPC which is a cognizable & non-bailable offence & for which you must be and will be arrested. #ArrestYuvikaChoudhary." Later, even Yuvika's husband and TV star Prince Narula took to his Instagram and issued an apology citing he was part of the vlog and equally guilty as his wife.

Kishore Kumar's son Amit Kumar stoked a controversy when he appeared as a celebrity guest for a special episode on 'Indian Idol 12' that was aired in honour of his father, the legendary singer. Amit later stated that he did not enjoy the episode and wanted it stopped. He also alleged that he was asked to praise the contestants by the channel. This came after the contestants and judges of the reality show received criticism for not doing justice to Kishore Kumar's songs.

Earlier this month, 'Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah' actor Munmun Dutta aka Babita Ji, in a video, the actor had used a casteist slur and she trimmed the video soon after being called out by people. However, that did not stop Dalit rights activist Rajat Kalsan from filing an FIR against the star. Munmun was consequently booked under section 3(1) (u) of the SC-ST POA act.

Music composer Anu Malik who recently replaced singer-composer Vishal Dadlani on 'Indian Idol 12' stoked a controversy on his return on the show. he was called out by singer Sona Mohapatra and the netizens for returning to the show at a time when there are serious #MeToo charges against him. The composer, however, did not react or issue any statement on his return to the show amid the #MeToo charges against him.

Singer and former 'Bigg Boss 14' contestant Jaan Kumar Sanu had found himself in the middle of a controversy over his remarks on the Marathi language. In an episode of the controversial reality show, Jaan had locked horns with Nikki Tamboli. Angered by her constantly speaking in Marathi, Jaan had asked Nikki to speak in Hindi since he did not understand the language. This did not down well with the people of Maharashtra. Viacom 18 had to tender an apology to Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray for airing the episode of Bigg Boss on its TV channel Colors TV after Jaan made derogatory remarks on the Marathi language. Jaan too issued an apology on the show.
