Since Elon Musk's announcement of the Hyperloop technology - a cross between a Concorde, a rail gun and an air-hockey table - the idea seemed too futuristic to be possible.

Between that time and now, Hyperloop tech has come a long way. It received some criticism from scientists, on not being practically possible though it seemed possible on paper.

However, Hyperloop One recently conducted a test at the Nevada Desert in Las Vegas on their propulsion and braking mechanism and passed (almost, literally) with flying colours.

A car-sized sled powered by electromagnets rocketed to more than 100 miles (160 kph) an hour through the Nevada desert on Wednesday in what the SpaceX said was the first successful test of a futurist transit system.

Hyperloop technology still has a long way to go, but this was a major step towards a time when Back to the Future would seem old school.

Take a look at history being made!
